As long as they are kept ON THE BORDER to reduce the invaders chances. No? You mean, gasp, they may well be used to control American citizens? NO! This glorious caring federal government couldn’t possibly mean to do that, could they? Good idea, IF properly used. What are the chances?
Don’t forget to vote, boys and girls.

So what? It’s largely meaningless.
I used to work in high altitude photo interpretation, both normal spectrum and color infrared, and we already can just about any amount of information we want – and that was going on 20 years ago.
And yes, with the right emulsions, I could even tell you what your neighbor was growing in his garage, basement, backroom etc because every plant has its own specific thermal signature.
You didn’t pay attention to the inferred meaning of the post, did you? This government we are subservient to undoubtedly intends to use these things against the American People, not the foreign invaders. Is that straight forward enough?
No, I didn’t miss that. I just don’t see how it’s an actual incremental risk since I was, 20 years ago, already doing this to the American People as well as various foreign entities. I just used U2s (and occasional beechcrafts for low-altitude work) and satellites.
Think of that which approved this. (Double facepalm)
Ummm….Reagan originally, then Bush Sr., then Clinton. For various purposes and with various unofficial side missions the overall project(s) have been around for a long time.
My primary domestic job was various types of land-use / land-cover mapping, but we had “relationships” with the DEA, FBI, and other state and federal agencies because of the usefulness of my company’s planes, equipment, and specialized personnel.
I can totally understand their use, but the limitations must be clear!
