This is what happened, and is still happening, in Australia. This is what has happened in places such as the big yankee cities, and is sure to happen throughout the rest of the country, if gun control takes any further hold on this nation.
The 2A was written specifically to protect personal firearms equivalent to military combat weaponry. No, they didn’t have selective fire weapons at that time, but had they it would have been better defined for later generations.
Now, why would the government be so worried by Joe/Jane Citizen owning a fully capable assault rifle? Could an oppressive government be worried about being overthrown by a dissatisfied citizenry?
Could the crime rate be lowered like Switzerland’s if every house had a trained individual, an M4, and a full can of ammo? More guns DO equal less crime, check the statistics.

One point: I did check the statistics…extensively. Those statistics showed no correlation whatsoever between gun ownership and violent crime rates. It’s just not a real factor.
Of course the only crime that the 2nd amendment was designed to combat was the crime of usurpation of the power of governance from the people by the politicians. Any other benefit is purely gravy.

Well the experiences of England and Australia spring to mind. The horrendous numbers in places like Chicago and DC where you can’t have one at all unless you are a criminal or a politician (difference?), vs the experience of Kennesaw, GA. The words of Thos. Jefferson regarding being armed against the highwayman. But your statement regarding the government is the most correct.
I think jonolan was not considering the work of John Lott or the actual criminal statistics research of the government itself. And I did like the LaPierre/NRA statement, “what stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun”. Logic.

What ticked me off the most when I was going to graduate school (at 54 yrs old)… is that I witnessed TEACHERS studying to be School Counselors actually cheating on tests; and they were allowed to. They went so far as to open their books, and the professors said nothing to them about it.

LOL…wellll, I have been up close and personal with toxic racism at the City of Dallas when I worked there.
IF you have the opportunity to Google a man named “Gerren Lyles (or Liles)”. He is a black poet in NY that my family has known for years. He wrote a small book “The ‘Road to Damascus.”
Basically, he explains the Black rage and hate? Blacks do NOT love themselves and protect their anger and rage OUT at the whites to make it all better.
We can’t. We tried through Affirmative Action. I am an ol’ gal, and have had many many experiences from that time of Affirmative Action in teaching the black population their jobs…so they could climb in their chosen professions.
I worked for the City of Dallas in the Department of Planning and Development. I was a permanent temp and floated all around the departments. The Opening came up for a Permanent person in the job I was in as an Administrative Assistant to the Director. There were 57 women in the department and only 3 of those were white.
They really didn’t want the job because it “wasn’t UNION”..but they didn’t want a white woman to have it either.
I had learned to carry a hand-held pocket recorder because I had been threatened so many times. I was pulled off in a stairwell and slammed against a brick wall. She had her elbow at my throat and a double-long form of acrylic nail jabbing me between the eyes warning NOT to apply for the job.
I had to replace all of my tires on my car twice due to them being slashed. Finally I started parking two blocks away and walked at night to get to my car (carrying a gun in my coat pocket because I had been threatened so many times.
We trained them. I invited each one to lunch at one time or another and each one refused “UNLESS” she needed something from me.

I hope Illinois is not the first to fall into total tyranny. Keep a close eye on them. These gangsters would like nothing more than to disarm us before the system goes bankrupt. We are the resistance!
